What is shop window film?
Shop window film is an adhesive film applied directly to the glazing of a shopfront, on the street side or the shop side. It is used to communicate an offer or a logo, to dress an empty window, or to screen off an area without putting up a partition. Unlike paint, it comes off cleanly, with no work on the window frames.
Office window film meets a different need: first and foremost it provides privacy between open-plan areas and meeting rooms, indoors, away from passers-by. Shop window film speaks to the street first. It has to be read in a few seconds, from a distance, often on the move: it is as much a communication medium as a decorative finish.
Three practical benefits
Catch the eye
A dressed window stops people on the pavement. It is decoration and communication at the same time: an offer, a logo, a brand atmosphere.
Protect privacy
A counter, a stockroom, a waiting area: frosted or one-way vision film blocks the view from the street without darkening the shop.
Protect your stock
Anti-UV film filters out solar radiation and protects products displayed in the window from fading and yellowing.
The PROBLEM
Your shop window is your number one advertising space.

Which film for which window
A bakery shopfront and an estate agent's window don't have the same problem. The first wants to make people hungry from across the street. The second wants to display thirty property listings legible from two metres away while screening the offices behind. That is what the film is chosen on, not a colour chart.
Frosted and etched-glass film
The etched-glass effect, in adhesive form. You can no longer see through, but light still gets in. On a shopfront it is mostly used on the lower part, to hide a stockroom, a counter or a confidential area without darkening the shop.
From the street, a full image. From inside, a clear view of the pavement. It is the only film that can cover an entire shopfront without plunging the shop into darkness, and the best compromise when you want to communicate without cutting yourself off from the street.
Full-colour print and cut lettering
On one side, a photographic visual, a block of colour, a pattern, your logo at the scale of the façade. On the other, lettering cut from solid vinyl, with no background, for the name, opening hours and mandatory information. The two work very well together on the same shopfront.
Gradient and pixelated film
A progressive transition from opaque to transparent. On a shop window, it screens a precise height, a checkout line for example, without a hard band cutting the façade in two.
Blackout, opaque, mirror and solar films
For surfaces that need to be closed off completely, or for a south-facing façade that heats up and dazzles. Solar and mirror films reduce glare and overheating while providing daytime privacy. Anti-UV film also protects displayed products from fading, which matters when a window display stays in place for several months.
What shop window film costs
Pricing is per square metre installed. Four things make it vary: the total surface area, the type of film, the complexity of the cutting and access to the glazing.
A ground-floor shopfront and a raised window that needs a cherry picker do not cost the same to install, even for the same surface area. A single-width block of colour and a shaped visual with ten separate elements do not take the same workshop time. That is why we quote after visiting the site, not from a photo.
The survey also reveals what you can't guess from a distance: slightly wavy original glazing, a recess under an arcade, a pavement where unloading rolls is impossible. These are the details that make a quote drift, never the installation technique.
Accessibility rules and glazing markings on a shopfront
A shop window is a glazed wall in a building open to the public. When it is located on or alongside a circulation route, it must be made visible with visual markings that contrast with their immediate surroundings and can be seen from both sides of the glass. In France this is commonly called PMR window film, for people with reduced mobility, even though the requirement primarily protects visually impaired people and any passer-by who isn't paying attention.
The two 5 cm bands at 1.10 m and 1.60 m from the floor come from a 2006 French circular. Many installers present them as the only compliant solution. That is not true. The text talks about visibility, contrast and markings seen from both sides, not an imposed shape. A frieze, a pattern or a band in your brand colours performs exactly the same function, and your compliance becomes part of the design instead of two grey strips stuck on top.
Install at night, open in the morning
A shop window that is being worked on during opening hours is a job that costs you customers. We schedule installations outside your opening hours: early in the morning, in the evening, or at night when the operation warrants it. The principle is simple: you close with one shopfront and open with the new one. Floor protection, cleaning and removal of packaging are part of the service, not options to negotiate.
Fascia, façade or raised window: access changes the job
A fascia above the shopfront, a raised canopy or a full façade are not handled like a window at pavement level. Access sometimes requires a cherry picker, always requires cordoning off, and working hours compatible with foot traffic. That is why the site survey is part of our method: we measure, we look at access, and we price the installation for what it really is. A ground-floor shopfront and a fascia six metres up are not the same job, and an honest quote says so beforehand, not afterwards.
A shop window that changes with the seasons
This is the most under-used application of window film. Film goes on and comes off without marking the glass, so you can completely change the look of a shopfront several times a year, with no building work and without touching the window frames.
Christmas, winter and summer sales, back to school, Pink October, a launch, an opening, a shop anniversary. Each campaign can have its own visual, installed in half a day and removed just as quickly. Many retailers keep a permanent dressing on the lower part, with their identity and mandatory information, and rotate the upper part throughout the year.
By sector
Pharmacies
Cross sign, mandatory information, screening of confidential areas at the counter, glazing markings for accessibility. Plenty of obligations, so they might as well be well designed.
Estate agents
Property listing windows, identity fascia, screened back office. Here everything depends on what can be read from across the street.
Restaurants and bakeries
The menu in the window, filtered light in the dining room, separate spaces without building a wall. And anti-UV film for displayed products.
Beauty salons and spas
Privacy for treatment rooms on the street side, frosted film on the lower part, brand visual on the upper part. The balance between being seen and not exposing your clients.
Fashion retail
A collection or sale visual across the whole window, changed in step with your campaigns, without ever marking the glass when it is removed.
Banks and insurers
Privacy for advisory desks on the street side, legal information and corporate messaging on the upper part, without losing clarity on the façade.
Medical and professional practices
Waiting room screened from the pavement, plate and opening hours legible from a distance, and window film that meets glazing marking requirements.
How it works at Paristic
A site survey first, never a quote from a simple photo. Then a mock-up on a photo of your window, to approve the result before production. Production takes place in our workshop, made to measure. Installation requires no heavy building work: no removal of frames, no repainting, just the existing glazing, outside your opening hours if needed.
From the first survey to installation, you have a single point of contact at Paristic, who follows your project from quote to invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does window film cost per square metre?
Pricing is per square metre installed and depends on four things: the total surface area, the type of film, the complexity of the cutting and access to the glazing. A ground-floor shopfront and a raised window that needs a cherry picker do not cost the same to install, even for the same surface area. We quote after a site survey, so that the quote matches the invoice.
What are the regulations for window film on a shop window?
In a building open to the public, glazed walls located along a circulation route must be made visible with contrasting visual markings, visible from both sides. The two 5 cm bands at 1.10 m and 1.60 m come from a 2006 French circular: they are one way of doing it, not a mandatory format. Any pattern that is sufficiently contrasting and visible from both sides is compliant.
Frosted or one-way vision: how do I choose?
Frosted film blocks the view completely while letting light through: it is used on the lower part of a shopfront to hide a stockroom or a counter. One-way vision (micro-perforated) film shows a full image from the street while keeping the view of the pavement from inside: it is the only film that can cover an entire shopfront without darkening the shop.
Can window film be removed without damaging the glass?
Yes. Film installed properly comes off cleanly with heat, without scratching the glazing or leaving marks. That is exactly what makes window film suited to seasonal campaigns and to rented premises.
Does window film stand up to sun and rain?
Yes, our exterior films are UV-laminated and weather-resistant for Paris conditions, with a lifespan of 3 to 7 years depending on the range chosen.
Can I change my window display regularly?
Absolutely. We offer removable films designed specifically for temporary campaigns (sales, Christmas) that come off without leaving adhesive behind. Ideal for keeping your window display fresh.
How quickly can you handle an urgent campaign?
We are used to the urgency of retail. On simple projects, we adapt the schedule to your trading constraints, in Paris and the inner suburbs.
Does one-way vision film darken the shop?
Very little. You can see out almost normally while a strong visual is displayed on the street side. It is the ideal compromise, often used alongside a shop sign.
Do you handle the graphic design?
Yes, our in-house studio can create your visuals from start to finish, following your brand guidelines and the technical constraints of large-format printing.
How do I look after window film on a shop window?
Regular cleaning with a non-abrasive glass cleaner is enough; avoid squeegees and scouring sponges on the film. No steam cleaners and no products with concentrated alcohol, which weaken the adhesive and the UV laminate over time.
