Give your image real depth.
Reception is the first physical point of contact with your visitors. A flat logo on a white wall is not enough. A 3D logo brings status, credibility and energy to your reception area.
Built-up logos, 3D lettering, metal letters, indoor signs: they all belong to the same manufacturing family. This page covers the materials, the uses and our method. For the full fit-out, see office decoration.
The observation

3D lettering is your name, your logo or a phrase, cut from a thick material and fixed to the wall in genuine relief. The letters have depth, an edge and a shadow. You see them from the front door, you notice them in photos, you remember them. It is what separates a company reception from a corridor.
It is also called raised lettering, cut-out letters or built-up letters. The principle is the same indoors, on a reception wall or in a meeting room, and outdoors, where it becomes a cut-letter shop sign. What changes is the material, the fixing and the lighting.
Not to be confused with a cut vinyl wall sticker, which stays flat: that is the field of wall decoration and stickers. 3D lettering costs more than a sticker, lasts much longer, and moves with you if you relocate.
Which material for your logo or raised letters
There is no single right material. There is the one that suits your image, your wall and your budget. Here is how we think it through in the workshop.
PVC logo: the indoor standard
Foam PVC is light, cuts finely and can be painted in any RAL colour. It is the material of most reception logos: a good finish, good value for money, and simple installation with double-sided tape or stand-offs. It also holds up outdoors in sheltered spots if treated.
Metal letters: aluminium, stainless steel, brass
Metal letters give the most premium result. Brushed or lacquered aluminium for a contemporary image, stainless steel for outdoor use and exposed façades, brass for a boutique or heritage-house feel. Laser or water-jet cutting, clean edges, long-lasting. It is the material of head offices, professional firms and hotels. Materials, finishes and stand-off fixing for decorative metal letters: see our wall decoration page.
Wooden logo: warmth and authenticity
Oak, walnut, exposed birch plywood, painted or oiled wood: a wooden logo warms up an open-plan office and tells the story of a brand that is artisanal, responsible or close to nature. For indoor use only, it pairs well with a green wall or wall decoration in natural materials.
Plant logo: preserved lichen and moss
Preserved lichen needs no water, no light and no maintenance. Set into cut-out letters or placed as a backdrop behind a metal logo, it adds colour and texture, and conveys an environmental message without a word. Indoors only, away from direct heat sources.
Acrylic and printed logos
Acrylic (PMMA) can be cut, tinted throughout and printed. It is used for multicoloured logos, gradients, transparency effects and backlit letters. Direct printing on the material means a complex logo can be reproduced without simplifying it.
Where to put a 3D logo in your premises
The reception wall remains the first location: it is what a candidate, a client or a courier sees. The main meeting room, where photos and video calls happen, comes right after. Then come the shared spaces (cafeteria, break-out area), where a word or a value in relief makes more of an impression than a poster, and the façade or building lobby, where the lettering becomes signage.
In a complete office decoration project in Paris, the 3D logo is coordinated with the window film on glass partitions and the wall decoration: same colours, same typography, same level of finish. That is what makes a place feel designed, rather than a patchwork of suppliers.
What size and typeface for raised lettering
The size of raised lettering is determined by reading distance, not by the space available on the wall. A rule of thumb commonly used by sign makers: allow roughly 2.5 to 3 cm of letter height per metre of viewing distance. A logo read from three metres, as in a reception lobby, works with letters 8 to 10 cm high. A façade read from the pavement, fifteen or twenty metres away, needs letters of 40 cm or more.
The typeface matters as much as the size. A thin or very light font does not cut well in relief: strokes break during CNC or laser cutting, and the cast shadow makes them illegible from a distance. We recommend bold or semi-bold fonts, without fine serifs, with enough spacing (kerning) for each letter's shadow to stay crisp without merging into the next. Capitals versus lower case depends on the message: capitals command attention, lower case feels reassuring and often reads faster in a logotype.
These settings are checked on the scale mock-up, with your actual logo placed on the photo of your wall, before any cutting. That is also where we tie the raised lettering in with the rest of the wayfinding: door plates, totems, pictograms. See our guide to corporate signage for all these elements.
How it works at Paristic
We come and look at the wall. We measure, look at the light, the surface (plasterboard, concrete, brick, glass), the installation height and how far back visitors will stand. We then send you a scale mock-up on the photo of your wall, with the proposed material, thickness and finish. You approve it, or we adjust.
We coordinate production: digital cutting, painting or brushing, and preparation of the installation template. On the day, our installers fit it with no heavy building work, often outside your opening hours, and leave with their packaging. You have a single point of contact from the first meeting to installation, which avoids the back-and-forth between a designer, a manufacturer and an installer who don't talk to each other.
Twenty years of projects in Paris and the Île-de-France region, over 1,200 projects delivered: we have installed logos in bank and insurance head offices as well as in neighbourhood shops. See our projects.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is 3D lettering (or raised lettering)?
3D lettering is text or a logo cut from a thick material (PVC, aluminium, wood, acrylic) and fixed to a wall or façade, in relief. Unlike a vinyl sticker or flat print, the letters have real depth and cast a shadow, and they can be read from a distance. You will also hear raised letters, cut-out letters or built-up lettering: it is the same family.
Which materials for an indoor logo?
We work with PVC (affordable and lightweight), brushed aluminium (premium), wood (warm) and preserved plants (natural). Each material brings its own strengths to your image.
Can the logo be illuminated?
Yes, we make backlit logos and flexible LED neon logos. They are ideal for livening up a dark wall or a reception area. See our illuminated projects.
How is the logo fixed?
Depending on the surface, we use stand-offs (to add depth and a cast shadow) or strong double-sided adhesive with a precisely measured installation template.
What thickness should raised letters be?
It all depends on the reading distance and the material. For a reception wall read from three or four metres, 10 to 19 mm is enough to create a real shadow. For a façade or a lobby with a high ceiling, we go thicker, or mount the letters on stand-offs to lift them off the wall. We propose the thickness at mock-up stage, never at random.
Can 3D lettering be installed outdoors?
Yes, with the right materials: aluminium, treated foam PVC, acrylic or stainless steel. Raw wood and plants are for indoor use only. Outdoors, it usually becomes a cut-letter shop sign, possibly backlit.
How is the price of a 3D logo or lettering calculated?
The quote depends on the size of the letters, the material, the thickness, the finish (RAL paint, brushing, lighting) and the installation conditions (height, surface, access). We carry out a survey and send you a quote that matches what will be invoiced. No price per metre can be taken seriously without these details.
How long does production take?
Allow around 10 to 15 working days for the bespoke manufacture and painting of your 3D logo in Paris.
How do I look after metal or PVC letters?
A slightly damp microfibre cloth is enough. No solvents or abrasive sponges on painted or brushed faces. Letters on stand-offs are dusted from the top, like a shelf.
Do you also handle office signage?
Yes, we carry your identity through to door plates, directional totems and window film.
