A logo with real grain

Wood changes how a wall reads. A painted or lacquered logo stays a surface; wood shows its grain, its edge, sometimes its layers. It warms up a cold reception area, softens a glass-walled meeting room and says something about the brand: a feel for materials and for work done properly.

We draw the logo to the scale of your wall, choose the wood and thickness with you, have the letters cut to the exact outline of your artwork, then install them. This page covers what you need to know before choosing wood over PVC or metal.

What's at stake

Three questions to settle before signing off a wooden logo.

The right spot

Wood is an indoor material. It moves with humidity and heat, so we avoid exposed façades, draughty entrances and the wall right above a radiator.

Artwork that works in wood

Very thin strokes, isolated dots and delicate serifs can snap or split. We adapt the drawing, without betraying the brand guidelines, so it cuts cleanly.

A colour that stays right

Wood darkens or fades with light. The finish (oil, varnish, paint) is chosen for the wall's exposure and for how it should look in a few years, not just on installation day.

Which wood for a wooden logo

Each species gives the logo a different character. The choice depends on your brand guidelines, the existing furniture and how fine the artwork is.

For thin or intricate wooden letters, we prefer stable boards (plywood, multi-ply laminated wood) to solid timber, which moves more and splits more easily along the grain.

  • Oak: honey tone, strong grain, a sober and solid look. Suits headquarters and professional firms.
  • Walnut: deep brown and refined, often chosen for a quieter mood or dark furniture.
  • Birch plywood: pale face and an edge that shows the layers. A workshop look, very graphic.
  • Pine or spruce three-ply board: light, warm wood that works well for large letters.
  • Painted wood: the depth and warmth of wood, in the exact colour of your brand.

Thickness, cutting and finishes

Thickness depends on reading distance. For a reception wall read from three or four metres, 10 to 19 mm is enough to cast a real shadow. Beyond that, or in a high-ceilinged lobby, we go thicker or lift the letters off the wall.

Cutting is digital, by router or by laser. A router leaves a clean edge in the colour of the wood. A laser leaves a darker, slightly caramelised edge, which some brands want and others avoid. We show you the difference on samples.

For the finish, oil keeps a natural feel and feeds the wood. Matt varnish resists fingerprints better at eye level. Paint or stain lets us match your brand colour while keeping the texture of the grain.

Fixing: flush to the wall or on stand-offs

There are two ways to install, depending on the wall and the effect you want.

Fixed flush with suitable double-sided tape or mounting adhesive, the wooden letters become part of the wall. It is the most discreet option, ideal on a smooth partition or a wood panel.

On stand-offs, the letters sit a few centimetres proud of the wall. The cast shadow doubles the sense of depth, like a picture hung in a gallery. Stand-offs also cope with uneven walls (brick, raw concrete) where direct bonding would not hold well.

Either way, we install with a full-scale template so alignment and letter spacing are exact.

Where to put a wooden logo in your offices

The reception wall is still the most common spot: it is the first image a client or candidate keeps of your offices. The main meeting room comes next, especially if it is the backdrop for video calls and photos.

Wood also works in shared spaces, for a value or a welcome word, and on a desk or shelf, mounted on a base. Filled with preserved plants, it becomes a plant logo; it also pairs well with wall decoration in natural materials.

For a façade, even a sheltered one, we point you towards treated PVC or metal: that is the job of a cut-letter shop sign.

Wood, PVC or metal: how to choose

Wood brings warmth and authenticity. It needs an indoor location and artwork that can stand up to cutting.

A PVC logo is lighter, can be painted any colour and copes with a sheltered outdoor spot if treated. It is often the right call when a brand colour must be matched precisely.

Metal (brushed aluminium, brass) gives the most corporate look. For a multicoloured or gradient logo, printing on acrylic reproduces the artwork without simplifying it. See all materials on our 3D logo page.

A wooden logo, from survey to installation

We come and look at the wall: dimensions, surface, light, how far back visitors stand. We then send you a scale mock-up on a photo of your wall, with the proposed wood, thickness and finish. You approve it or we adjust.

If environmental impact matters to you, we can offer wood from sustainably managed forests on request, subject to availability. See also our approach to eco-friendly office design.

Twenty years of experience and more than 1,200 projects in Paris and the Île-de-France region have taught us one thing: a good logo is decided at mock-up stage. To start yours, send us your brief.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a wooden logo be installed outdoors?

We advise against it. Wood reacts to rain, sun and temperature swings: it stains, splits or warps. For a façade, even a sheltered one, we suggest treated PVC or metal.

Which wood should we choose for wooden letters?

Oak for a sober, warm look, walnut for a darker and more refined mood, birch plywood for a graphic edge, pine or spruce for a light wood. We bring samples so you can choose in front of the wall.

Can our logo colours be matched exactly in wood?

Yes, with a painted or stained finish in your brand colour. On natural or oiled wood, the colour is that of the species, so we work with the contrast against the wall.

How is a wooden logo fixed?

Flush with double-sided tape or mounting adhesive on a smooth wall, or on stand-offs to create a cast shadow. Installation uses a full-scale template.

How do you look after a wooden logo?

Regular dusting with a dry or barely damp cloth is enough. No household cleaners or solvents. An oiled finish can be refreshed from time to time with the same oil.

Can any logo be cut in wood?

Most can, provided very fine parts are adapted. A stroke that is too thin or an isolated dot weakens the letter. We flag these areas on the mock-up and suggest a discreet adjustment.

How much does a wooden logo cost?

The quote depends on size, wood species, thickness, finish and installation conditions. We prepare it after a site survey so that it matches what will be invoiced.
